Journalist Dean Jones has been reacting to yet another injury for Aston Villa involving defender Ludwig Augustinsson.

The Lowdown: Augustinsson in and then out

Augustinsson got the nod from Steven Gerrard against Leeds United in the Premier League on Sunday, with the summer signing, hailed as a set-piece specialist by Rafael da Cruz, making his Villa debut due to Lucas Digne’s absence with a heel problem.

However, the 28-year-old, who joined on loan from Sevilla over the summer, lasted just 45 minutes before going off with his own injury. The full-back appeared to have a hamstring issue, with Gerrard hinting he is ‘fearing the worst’ following the 0-0 draw.

The Latest: A curse!?

Talking to GiveMeSport regarding Augustinsson, Jones said that Villa aren’t having much luck this season, adding it could feel like ‘a bit of a curse’.

“It must feel like a bit of a curse.

“Villa really could do with some luck because not much is going their way.”

The Verdict: When will it end?

Villa may well feel like they are in fact cursed this season, with the injury issues piling up already after just eight Premier League games.

Diego Carlos was the first to suffer a serious injury, and he’s been joined in the treatment room by Matty Cash, Boubacar Kamara, Digne and now potentially Augustinsson.

All of Villa’s injury problems have come to defensive-minded players too, and with the club’s lack of quality in the final third with just six goals in eight games, you can see why they have had a poor start to the campaign.
