Aston Villa: Emiliano Martinez expected to stay put amid exit rumours

Aston Villa: Emiliano Martinez expected to stay put amid exit rumours - Aston Villa News

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is expected to remain at the Midlands club amid rumours linking him with a move away from Villa Park, according to Fabrizio Romano

The Lowdown: Martinez linked with Villa exit

After recently winning the World Cup with Argentina, the Villa shot-stopper has found himself being linked with the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

Unai Emery‘s side are back in Premier League action on Monday as they play host to Liverpool, but are unlikely to have the Argentine available to play.

With the January transfer window nearly set to open, Romano has dropped an update regarding the situation surrounding Martinez.

The Latest: Romano’s Martinez update

Taking to Twitter, Romano shared a fresh claim about Martinez’s status at Villa Park amid the links to Bayern.

He said: “FC Bayern are not working to sign Dibu Emiliano Martinez despite links — no talks ongoing. #FCBayern Alexander Nubel and Yann Sommer are the two options for Bayern to replace Manuel Neuer. Martinez, expected to stay at Aston Villa. #AVFC.”

The Verdict: Great news for Villa

Bearing in mind how the 30-year-old, who was praised by journalist Martin Hardy on Twitter for the “extraordinary” late save that he pulled off in the World Cup final against France, has appeared in all of Villa’s league games so far this season, this highlights how important he is for the team.

In fact, the World Cup winner is currently listed as Villa’s highest rated player according to WhoScored, having earned himself an overall season rating of 6.88/10.

Quiz time! Villa fans, do you know how much Coutinho set the club back?

Having faced 55 shots on target in the league this season, Martinez has made 39 saves, leaving him with a higher save percentage (69.1%) than the likes of Ederson (68.4%), Edouard Mendy (67.6%) and David De Gea (66.7%).

Overall, this update from Romano will surely have everyone connected to Villa sighing to relief, hopefully putting to bed any concerns that there may have been about Martinez’s immediate future at the club.
