Aston Villa: Villans ‘above all’ in Emil Forsberg transfer race

Aston Villa: Villans ‘above all’ in Emil Forsberg transfer race -Aston Villa News

Aston Villa appear to be leading the race to sign RB Leipzig’s Emil Forsberg.

The Lowdown: Forsberg profiled

The 30-year-old, who shares the same agent as compatriots and Villa summer signings Robin Olsen and Ludwig Augustinsson, is primarily a left winger who can also play as a centre-forward or attacking midfielder.

The Sweden international, who has been dubbed ‘underrated’ by Statman Dave, has made a whopping 262 appearances for Leipzig over a seven-year period.

He has scored 125 senior goals for club and country and is under contract until 2025, but it looks as if a move to the Midlands could be on the cards.

The Latest: Forsberg transfer update

Sport Witness relayed an update from BILD regarding Forsberg on Tuesday.

They claimed that Villa are ‘above all’ in the race to sign the player, who is now featuring in a reduced role under Domenico Tedesco.

The Verdict: Needed?

A new centre-back appears to be on the agenda for Johan Lange and NSWE in the remaining weeks of the transfer window following the serious injury to Diego Carlos, but Forsberg could also be a handy addition.

He has plenty of experience at the highest level for both club and country and would be able to play in numerous attacking roles under Steven Gerrard.

Aston Villa fans, do you remember who scored your first goal of the 21/22 season?

The player himself appears to have slipped down the pecking order in Germany, and with the future of someone like Bertrand Traore up in the air, Forsberg could prove to be a shrewd replacement for the current Villa forward.
