Many Aston Villa fans are fuming with the performance of Ross Barkley during their Premier League clash at Villa Park against Arsenal.
The summer loan signing has had a good campaign as before Saturday’s match he had managed 2.5 shots, two key passes and 1.2 successful dribbles per game (WhoScored). He has also scored three goals and provided one assist.
The former Everton youngster emphasised his quality as he scored the crucial goal against Southampton recently, but it seems like his performance against Arsenal was not up to scratch as one fan claimed he ‘needs dropping’ and another supporter said he was ‘offering nothing’.
The stats show that it was definitely not his best performance as he only managed 41 touches before he was substituted in the 77th minute. He also lost possession 12 times and lost three ground duels and two aerial duels (SofaScore).
With Barkley on being on loan and an outcast at Chelsea before leaving, he needs to be playing a lot better if he wants to avoid an uncertain future. If he plays well at Villa, then he could manage to get a permanent transfer to the club and this could be ideal as they are currently battling for Europe – or even secure a place at Chelsea. There is also the matter of the Euros in the summer, and poor performances like this will not get him selected in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
Here is what Villa fans said about Barkley:
“Barkley literally just standing watching play. This is poor again from him.”
“Barkley is a bit of a passenger when villa ain’t got the ball”
“Barkley needs to do so much more without the ball”
“Barkley really does just walk around the pitch when out of possession #avfc“
“Please take Barkley off”
“Would agree. Barkley is offering nothing. Again.”
