Aston Villa: Fans join Dean Smith in reacting to VAR decision - Aston Villa News

Many Aston Villa fans have followed Dean Smith’s comments after a controversial decision saw a penalty given to Manchester United in the 3-0 defeat on Thursday evening.

Smith’s side knew they needed a win at Villa Park as they continue to sit inside the bottom three of the Premier League.

In truth, the Midlands outfit started the game well with Trezeguet coming close as he hit the outside of the post, beating United keeper David De Gea with his initial shot.

However, as the game headed towards the half hour mark, Ezri Konsa was adjudged to have fouled Bruno Fernandes in the penalty box.

Having looked at VAR, the spot-kick was awarded but on second look, replays seemed to show Fernandes stepping on Konsa and not being fouled. It was later confirmed by the Premier League that the decision to give the penalty was the wrong one.

The Portuguese midfielder would step up and confidently put the ball past Villa keeper Pepe Reina, setting his side on their way to a 3-0 win which included goals from Mason Greenwood and Paul Pogba.

Following the game, Smith commented on the VAR decision and he was understandably livid. Villa fans have also reacted via Twitter account @villareport and they agreed with their manager’s frustrations at the decision.
