Some Aston Villa fans have debated whether or not Dean Smith should stick with one striker up front or go with a two.
Villa sit 19th in the Premier League table as things stand and will restart the 2019/20 season with a game in hand over the other relegation battlers, which takes place against Sheffield United next Wednesday.
After promotion to the top flight a year ago, an inconsistent season in the Premier League so far has seen Villa perform well at times, reaching the Carabao Cup final earlier this year, and Smith will be looking for similar performances from his team to get themselves out of the bottom three.
In the PL this year, 30% of starting formations have included two up front.
Lots of #AVFC fans discussing whether Davis AND Samatta could work at some stage.

Playing the majority of the season with one striker, a debate is now emerging on whether or not the Villa boss should change to a two-man front line. Gregg Evans from The Athletic has penned an article looking into the potential of playing two up top, mentioning youngster Keinan Davis, Mbwana Samatta and the injured Wesley.
Debating the potential of Smith going with two up front, some Villa fans gave their thoughts on how the attack should line up…
He should play 2 up top, I have said that for a long time imho, it puts pressure on the opposition back 3/4 and gives more options for the MF to play too,and that’s been an issue for me, changing the system, not keeping continuity, just my view

I’d love to see Davis and samatta as a two!
Think the power and pace would really scare a few! Plus the hold up play would be brilliant for the midfielders like jack and McGinn

Gives the opposition more to think about. Wesley and Samatta at times have looked lost with nobody near them. I don’t know whether 2 up front reduces the impact of Grealish and McGinn though 🤔

3-5-2 is the best formation

Could play a 3-5-2 with Targett and Guilbert almost as wing backs, leaving us the ability to have a defensive midfielder as well as Jack and McGinn centrally.
I definitely think Davis has something to offer because the ball seems to stick to him so he’ll bring others into play

It could work but it won’t happen.

Smith needs to as draws get you relegated. I don’t think he will though. Seems one dimensional with tactics
