Many Aston Villa fans are reacting to a tweet from Gregg Evans in which he discussed the selection dilemma Dean Smith is faced with in midfield.

The journalist for The Athletic posted: "Six central midfielders fighting for three places at AVFC, who gets the nod going forward?"

Ross Barkley was brought in on loan in the summer, and then the club bolstered their midfield even more by bringing in Morgan Sanson in the January window (Transfermarkt). This saw players like Conor Hourihane become surplus to requirements, but still left Smith with a lot of midfielders to choose from.

What the manager probably didn't see coming was the rapid emergence of academy star Jacob Ramsey. The 19 year-old has already made 12 appearances this campaign and has started two out of the last three matches for the club (Transfermarkt).

The midfield situation the club has is now a difficult situation, but it is a problem that managers love to have and just shows how far the club has come since getting promoted.

Here is how Villa fans reacted to the tweet:

"Why does it need to be a thing? The best teams in the world rotate their squads. If anybody then leaves, it should only be to bring better quality in UTV"

"All of this makes me look to how to improve next season. Need Ross pre injury. And that looks likely to be someone else. But if we get that mix right with Jack and others continue growth in a young side it could be even more compelling than this season."

"Now Villa have reached 40 points, DS needs to take the shackles off & see where Villa can end up. For me Grealish needs to move into the midfield & El Ghazi on the left."
