Aston Villa: Fans react as John Terry is one of the favourites for the Derby County job
Many Aston Villa fans are reacting to the latest update on the possibility of assistant coach John Terry becoming the new Derby County manager.
According to Sky Sports, Terry is among the frontrunners to be the next manager of Derby County, and he could take this role once the club’s takeover is complete.
The former Chelsea defender is the odds on favourite to follow in the footsteps of his ex-Blues teammate Frank Lampard and take the job at the Pride Park Stadium and is as short as 8/11 on with some bookmakers listed on the betcompare.com website.

Other heavily favoured managers include current caretaker and former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, whose odds range from 2/1 to 6/4, while Steve Cooper, David Wagner and even Sam Allardyce are even in the running according to the bookmakers.
However, it’s Terry who is thought to be leading the way and has been linked a few times since the job became available following the sacking of Phillip Cocu. At Aston Villa, he is gaining a lot of crucial experience – surviving last season and the hopeful progression into a mid-table side maybe even with Europa League ambitions this term are valuable experiences for a young coach.
To take charge of a club at the bottom of the Championship table would be a huge risk for any manager, and even more so for the inexperienced Terry, so it would perhaps be a safer bet for him to stay on alongside Dean Smith at Villa Park.
Here is what Villa fans said following the update on Terry:
Bye bye. Can’t wait to get an actual decent defensive coach as nothing has improved for 3 seasons now pic.twitter.com/PVXanuMn6k

He’d be a fool to take it. Bottom of the table. Constant comparisons with Frank. Why would he want that? Keep learning your trade at The Villa and eventually the right job will come. Derby County at this moment in time is 100% not the right job for JT.
