Former West Bromwich Albion and Barcelona talent Louie Barry has been training with Aston Villa’s first team since the club returned to Bodymoor Heath.
16-year-old Barry made the headlines when he was signed to a development contract with La Liga giants Barca in July 2019.
Leaving behind a ten-year spell at West Brom, the young forward would go on to represent the Catalan side at U19 level, but his transfer was met with controversy after it was alleged that the Baggies never received compensation from Barca.
Appearing once for Villa’s U23 in which he scored, Barry has now linked up with Dean Smith’s first team along with fellow youngsters Mungo Bridge and Tyreik Wright.
Responding to a Tweet shared by @Villareport on the young trio’s inclusion, fans gave a positive response. It is understandable as to why they would be excited about seeing Barry in particular involved, indeed he must have something about him to have been given an opportunity by Barcelona in the past.
One even labelled him the “next Messi”, perhaps alluding to his past ties with the Catalans, the fact they are both forwards and their similar statures, with Barry standing at 1.74m and the Argentine just shorter at 1.7m.
Hopefully Louie Barry gets a shot
