Aston Villa: Fans respond to Dean Smith’s desire to keep Pepe Reina and Danny Drinkwater - Aston Villa News

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has revealed that he would like to keep both Pepe Reina and Danny Drinkwater past the summer.

The Midlands-based side will approach this evening’s match against Sheffield United looking to take advantage of a game in hand over other clubs at the wrong end of the table.

Villa, who have been largely inconsistent in the 2019/20 Premier League, sit 19th prior to kick-off this evening, and Smith will be looking to a number of his experienced squad members to help them remain in England’s top flight through to next term.

Two of those more experienced Villa players are former Spain international and Liverpool goalkeepr Reina and former Leicester City Premier League winner Drinkwater. Both arrived on loan during the January transfer window at Villa Park and both have been gradually adapting to life at the Birmingham based club.

Reina, who was brought in to provide cover for Tom Heaton after he was injured against Burnley earlier in the year, has been Smith’s number one choice between the sticks. Meanwhile, Drinkwater has found playing time slightly harder to come by, being involved in a training ground scuffle with Jota before the break in football.
