The Telegraph journalist John Percy has claimed that Aston Villa are ready to offer Douglas Luiz a new contract this summer.
The Brazilian midfielder moved to Villa Park last year from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and was one of Dean Smith’s most consistent performers throughout the 2019/20 campaign, appearing in 36 games for Villa.
Helping the club to fight off the threat of relegation, the 22-year-old proved to be one of the best performers for the Claret and Blue. Such performances have since seen reports emerge that former club City, who have a buy-back clause available to use, were keen to activate it.
Those reports have now been followed by a claim from Percy, who says that the Midlands club are set to offer a new contract to the midfielder in a bid to keep him at Villa Park.
On Douglas Luiz: Manchester City have no plans to trigger the buyback this summer. Highly likely that #avfc will offer him a new contract ahead of the new season

Reacting to the report, these Villa fans have responded via @villareport on Twitter and below are just a few of the comments made:
Would a new contract remove the buyback clause or is that something written into the terms of the purchase / sale with Man City?

I don’t understand giving him a new deal if he can still go next summer?

Will a new contract have any baring on Citys buyback John? Some say yes. Some say no. I’m under the impression that agreement is between Villa and City and not Villa and the player?

I’m more worried that if he has another good season he could be worth double what that buy back clause is. They could have it back purely to make money on.

John, your posts are a continual Christmas present. Sincerely hope this is as accurate as your usual high standard
