Many Aston Villa fans are absolutely fuming following VAR’s involvement on their fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Trezeguet went down in the box 93rd minute after a challenge from Solly March. It was a huge moment with the Seagulls having the 2-1 lead. VAR then instructed on-field referee Michael Oliver to look at his decision and he changed his mind, claiming the Brighton defender won enough of the ball first.
Peter Walton spoke on BT Sport following the match saying that the first decision should not have been changed because ‘it wasn’t a clear and obvious error’. Therefore, Villa fans definitely have something to be frustrated about, even if there was indeed a touch on the ball from March.
Many supporters flocked to Twitter, with one saying it was “unbelievable” and “atrocious”.
With Dean Smith’s side of course losing the fixture, this was a pivotal and costly moment, and a point from the fixture could have moved the Villains level on points with Southampton.
