Aston Villa announced the appointment of Aaron Danks as the club’s new first-team coach on Wednesday morning.

And, as to be expected, a number of Villa fans were quick to give their thoughts to the news on social media.

Dean Smith lost two members of his backroom staff prior to the season, with John Terry and Richard O’Kelly leaving, but they will now have Danks to call upon at Villa Park.

Danks will bring plenty of experience to the Midlands and has arrived from Belgium where he was Vincent Kompany’s assistant at Anderlecht.

He spent 11 years at West Brom, helped England’s Under-20 squad win the World Cup in 2017 and served as Aidy Boothroyd’s assistant for England’s Under-21.

Villa, who interviewed candidates last month, admitted they were ‘delighted’ to bring Danks to the club.

Villa fans react

Superb appointment. @coachdanks was a huge influence and support network for me as a young coach, absolutely top guy and one of the best coaches I’ve ever seen in action. Buzzing to see him at the Villa!
