Many Aston Villa fans are reacting to a tweet by Gregg Evans in which he discussed Wednesday night’s defeat to West Ham United at Villa Park.
Dean Smith’s side lost 3-1 to the Hammers, and it will be a disappointing result as the club try and push for a place in the European places. Evans, who covers the Villains for The Athletic, tweeted: “Four defeats in six has taken the gloss off the transformation at AVFC. How they react now will be key. With a hectic fixture period, it was inevitable there would be some difficulties along the way.”
Aston Villa currently sit ninth in the division, with 32 points (SofaScore). This is a great place to be in with 18 games still left to play, however the fact that they have lost four in their last six will be very worrying and Dean Smith will be desperate to prevent the season just petering out after such a sensational start.
The fixture list is heavily congested, and Smith is relying a lot on the same players as he continues to choose a similar starting eleven every week – perhaps this reluctance to rotate has started to catch up to the manager.
Villa fans have given their verdicts on the recent slump in response to Evans’ message, with some calls for more rotation and others just having nightmares about the ‘Villa of old’.
Here is how Villa fans reacted to defeat:
“Need to start rotating! The games are coming in fast and we still using the same players!!”
“If Dean Smith rotated once in a while, they wouldn’t look tired. 100% to blame”
“Look tired, sanson come in against arsenal, Barkley out, worry if Watkins gets injured, all in all amazing what smith has done since started at villa !”
“Moyes got the better of the Smith tactically last night, few big mistakes cost us. Villa in a great place and have a decent run now up until 3rd April. 8th to 12th with the additions is still realistic and should be achieved. We just dont want to become obvious tactically.”
“It’s just the Villa of old coming back to the surface. It’s ingrained in us we implode. Every team did it. Gregory’s, Littles, Atkinson’s, O’Neill’s”
“Lost nearly half of our games. Expectations from our great start were obviously too high and now coming back down to earth and starting to point the finger!!”
