Plenty of Aston Villa fans have been reacting to Pep Guardiola’s transfer comments on Douglas Luiz on social media.

Manchester City defeated Dean Smith’s side 2-1 at Villa Park on Wednesday evening to take a step closer to another Premier League title.

Luiz made his 27th Premier League start of the season in the narrow loss, and Birmingham Live were quick to quiz Guardiola on the Brazilian following the full-time whistle.

That’s because City have a buy-back option on the 22-year-old, which is set to expire this summer.

City had a two-year clause inserted into the £15m deal which brought Luiz to Villa Park back in August 2019, with that buy-back option thought to stand at £27.5m.

Asked by Birmingham Live reporter Ashley Preece if City will exercise their buy-back option, Guardiola didn’t appear to rule it out.

"I have many things in my head in this five, six weeks! I've spoken a lot.

"To be here, we have the final, we have the Premier League, Champions League semi-finals for the second time in our life, this club, we don't want to be distracted.

"There are a lot of people in the club working about this type of players and, at the end of the season, we will take a decision."

Villa fans react

@AVFC_News shared the clip of Guardiola talking about Luiz on Twitter on Thursday morning.

Their post received plenty of interaction, with one describing the transfer comments as 'interesting'.

"Interestinggggg..."

"I'd be amazed if they wanted him back. His form back end of last season and first half of this was very good but even at that level he isn't going to get a lot of game time in a club going for league titles."

"I’ll drop him off, free of charge #utv"

"Play him in his correct role and he will be something else. He is the best DM we have and isn’t suited to that. With a good DM next to him he will flourish"

"Please take him back he’s so overrated and the buyback believed to be 27million I would snap their hands off and buy a DM that can actually tackle and win the ball!!!"

"“He’s a lovely guy.” Pep doesn’t want him back on that alone. Personally I don’t think he’s anywhere near city level, in fact I think he’s been below average for Villa this season, seems to have fallen off a cliff."
