Many Aston Villa fans are fuming with the performance of defender Ahmed Elmohamady for his performance in the Premier League loss against Leicester on Sunday.
The right-back filled in for Matty Cash who is out for the foreseeable with an injury. The right-back, who signed from Championship side Nottingham Forest in the summer (Transfermarkt) has been a revelation for Villa and has been crucial to the club picking up 12 clean sheets in the Premier League so far. Therefore it was always going to very noticeable with him not in the side.
The player lost two ground duels, and lost possession 16 times (SofaScore) whilst he seemed to be terrorised by the Foxes attack. It was always going to be hard for him to fill in. The Egyptian is now 33 and hasn’t started a game since the 26th December (Transfermarkt). One fan called him a ‘liability’.
He will have to step up in his next game as sides will look to exploit the veteran and this could cause huge issues for Villa’s top half push.
Here is what Villa fans had to say following the match:
“Elmo is horrendous”
“Younger, longer contract. He should have stayed. Elmo is a liability.”
“Elmo well off the pace.”
“And elmo is a sad excuse for a footballer”
“Yes, he’s lively and quick. Elmo slow, shit and keeps getting caught ball watching”
“Watching Elmo makes you realise how much of an upgrade Cash is!”
