Aston Villa had a great summer window, and this has been proven by their position in the Premier League. Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has delivered his verdict on what he thinks was the best bit of business the club have done recently.
What Maguire had to say about Villa
Speaking about the business the club have done recently, Maguire said: “It’s a case of getting their business right. Ollie Watkins has been a fantastic signing, Martinez has been a fantastic signing. But the best thing they’ve done was to get Grealish to sign a contract extension.
“He’s one of those players whose feet don’t touch the turf. He glides. He’s an example of how footballers are elite artists as well as athletes.
“From an ambition and a morale-boosting point of view, getting him tied down to a new deal is by far the best thing they’ve done this season.”
Grealish’s contract shows Villa’s ambition
Owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris were desperate to keep Jack Grealish in the Midlands and they did that by tying him down to a long-term deal, something that’s representing great business.
The attacking midfielder has had a great campaign so far in the Premier League to help Villa sit ninth in the division after nine games. The Englishman has scored six goals and picked up ten assists in the Premier League (WhoScored). He has also managed, on average, 2.2 shots, 3.6 key passes and 2.9 successful dribbles a game.
It is easy to see why Maguire has praised the contract extension as Grealish is a quality player and it also shows that the club do not want to sell their best players but instead keep them and look to progress.
They have done just that this season and now have possible aspirations for a European place. The future is looking bright at Villa Park and all associated with the Villans should be very excited at the direction they’re heading in.
