Aston Villa: NSWE want to bid for Franck Kessie

Aston Villa: NSWE want to bid for Franck Kessie - Aston Villa News

Aston Villa reportedly want to make a bid for Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie this summer.

The Lowdown: Previous speculation

Labelled a ‘complete player’ by his former AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli, the 26-year-old has been a player of interest at Villa Park for some time. They were linked with a move for the Ivory Coast international and Boubacar Kamara almost 12 months ago, with the latter making the move to the Midlands on a free transfer.

Kessie ended up joining Barcelona last summer and has gone on to make 28 appearances at the Nou Camp, although he could be on the move once again in 2023.

The Latest: Villa interested in Kessie

Reports from Spain shared news regarding Kessie in the last 48 hours, in which Villa were mentioned.

It is claimed that, alongside Tottenham, ‘Aston Villa would be the second club in the Premier League that would want to bid for him’. Inter Milan are also in the race for the Ivorian, who could leave Barcelona if a sufficiently tempting offer arrives.

The Verdict: One to watch?

Christian Purslow is expecting an extremely busy transfer window at Villa Park this summer, and it could be time for NSWE to finally secure their man in Kessie.

He has plenty of experience at the highest level for club and country, with 379 senior appearances between both at just 26 years of age, so he may still have plenty of high-quality years left to give at Villa under Unai Emery.

The 51-year-old has two defensive midfielders and three central midfielders available to him at this moment in time, so Kessie could perhaps be seen as an upgrade on one of those, making this one to watch.
