Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has said that he believes the current squad at Villa Park can remain in the Premier League.
Villa sit 19th in the Premier League table as things stand and have their top-flight status very much hanging in the balance.
Gaining promotion via the play-off final last season from the Championship where they beat Derby County in the final, Villa have struggled to adapt to life back amongst England’s biggest sides.
Villa will resume the 2019/2020 season with a game against Sheffield United on June 17, and Grealish has now spoken about his thoughts on a potential relegation.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Grealish said: “There’s so much belief [that we can stay up]. I was only speaking to the manager yesterday about how good we’re looking as a team in training, fitness-wise and with the ball.
“We could only start contact training this week, but since we have, we’ve tried to work on stuff that we need to improve on.
“I know there was quite a lot of stuff we could improve on. The break came at a good time for us as we weren’t having a good set of results before the break.
“We’ve had time to reflect on stuff, we’ve been working hard and hopefully we’ll come back raring to go. I know that I will.”
Some superb words from the Villa captain and at the correct time. Grealish has been excellent this season for his boyhood club, netting seven goals and providing six assists (Transfermarkt).
He will need to be at his very best to ensure that his side have any hope in maintaining their hard work from last year to gain promotion is not wasted.
