Rumours continue to circulate around the possibility of Aston Villa assistant manager John Terry becoming the manager of Championship side Derby County.
The latest speculation around John Terry
According to the Derby Telegraph, the rumours of Terry taking up the vacant managerial role have intensified due to a massive shift in odds.
He has been linked a few times since the job became available following the sacking of Phillip Cocu.
Terry should stay at Aston Villa
Derby are currently bottom of the league and six points from safety with 13 games played (BBC Sport). It is easy to see why Cocu was sacked. However, this job would be a massive challenge for the former England defender.
Many raved over his very-experienced playing career, with Rio Ferdinand calling his performances ‘outstanding‘. However he doesn’t have that same experience as a manager yet, and taking such a difficult position would put him at risk of starting his coaching career on the wrong foot.
Meanwhile at Aston Villa, he is gaining a lot of crucial experience. Surviving last season and the hopeful progression into a mid-table side in the Premier League this term are valuable experiences for a young coach.
Terry should look to stay at Aston Villa for now, but who knows how long he will remain alongside Dean Smith.
