Aston Villa journalists have expressed their concern after Boubacar Kamara sustained an injury in Friday night's victory over Southampton.

The lowdown

Villa picked up their first Premier League win since August 13 courtesy of Jacob Ramsey's first-half goal, but Kamara's injury has somewhat marred the win.

The midfielder was only able to play the first 44 minutes before he was forced off, with Douglas Luiz coming on in his place.

Manager Steven Gerrard admitted after the game that he's 'worried' about the injury and said that Kamara would undergo a scan over the weekend.

The latest

Ashley Preece of The Birmingham Mail offered his reaction to Gerrard's remarks, conceding that it 'doesn't sound great'.

He does offer one note of optimism, though, with the international break set to limit any domestic absence.

Meanwhile, Gregg Evans of The Athletic tweeted that Kamara's injury is 'bad news'.

And in his matchday Q&A, he went on to describe the issue as a 'very serious concern'.

If the Frenchman faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Evans says he would be 'a big miss'.

The verdict

Kamara has established himself as an important player for Villa since his arrival from Marseille in the summer.

Gerrard has picked him for every league game, and prior to last night, he had played all but 15 minutes in the top flight this season.

He's one of the leading ball-winners in the side, topping the team's rankings for tackles per game, and his distribution is also excellent, as evidenced by his three accurate long balls per game (second only to Tyrone Mings among Villa's outfielders).

It's hard to disagree with Evans' conclusion that he would be a significant loss.
