Dean Smith is expected to make several changes to his starting eleven for the visit to Ashton Gate on Thursday evening when Aston Villa face Bristol City.
After the opening day of his side’s Premier League season ended with a 1-0 win over Sheffield United, Smith will now prepare for Thursday’s fixture against the Robins.
The Claret and Blue outfit ensured they made it through to the third round of the competition thanks to a 3-1 win over Burton Albion in the last round, seeing Ollie Watkins, Jack Grealish and Keinan Davis all find the back of the net.
Whilst the former two are starting eleven regulars in the Premier League and did feature against Burton, neither are likely to play against Bristol. In total, we expect Smith to make nine changes for this one.
Smith has already confirmed that new signing Bertrand Traore will make his first official start as a Villa player on Thursday evening, whilst Ezri Konsa and Conor Hourihane are expected to remain in the starting eleven from the win over the Blades.
Jed Steer is expected to replace Spaniard Emiliano Martinez in between the sticks, whilst Marvelous Nakamba and Henri Lansbury will come in to the midfield three at the expense of John McGinn and Douglas Luiz.
Tyrone Mings, Matty Cash and Matt Targett are all likely to be given breathers, meaning Ahmed Elmohamady, Kortney Hause and Neil Taylor should be given a chance in the 11.
Ahmed El Ghazi and Keinan Davis could play alongside new man Traore in attack having sealed his £17m move to the Midlands earlier this week.
