Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma is Unai Emery's 'top choice' to bring to Aston Villa in the January transfer window, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Villa keen on Danjuma

Villa have been linked with numerous signings from Emery's old club since he replaced Steven Gerrard late last year, as the Spaniard looks to get his own players in and mount a charge in the second half of the season.

Danjuma is one name who has featured prominently among the list of potential targets, with the wide man working under Emery at the Estadio de la Cerámica before the latter's departure.

The Dutchman has scored six times in 17 appearances in all competitions this term.

The Latest: Emery's 'top choice'

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones claimed that Emery now sees Danjuma as his number one option to bring in this month:

"We know that Emery wants his own wide signing to come in, and the top-choice is Danjuma, but it would make sense that they’re looking at other options too.

"Deulofeu’s always had the natural ability to play at a very good level in the Premier League, so it would be interesting if they do turn to him."

The Verdict: Match made in heaven?

Danjuma may not necessarily be the elite, world-renowned player that some Villa fans want, but as Philippe Coutinho has shown, those types of transfers can backfire, with the Brazilian failing to register a single goal involvement this season.

Instead, the Villarreal man could be an inspired signing, with Emery's knowledge of him as a player an immediate bonus - Danjuma himself called the Villa boss a 'tactical mastermind'.

He has an impressive 69 senior goals for club and country throughout his young career and has also played 14 times in the Premier League, although all of his 17 Bournemouth goals came in the Championship.
