Emiliano Martinez's future at Aston Villa is not in doubt despite some rumours suggesting otherwise, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Martinez impressing at World Cup

The 30-year-old has become a key figure for both club and country and he is currently impressing for Argentina at the World Cup in Qatar.

Martinez has helped his nation to reach the quarter-finals of the competition, making a crucial late save in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Australia as he preserved his ever-present record at the tournament.

Away from the World Cup, the Villa stalwart has been linked with a move away from the Midlands due to a reported rift with new manager Unai Emery, dating back to their mutual time at Arsenal.

The Latest: Future not in doubt

However, speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones played down the issue, stating that he expects Martinez to stay put at Villa.

The journalist said:

"I’m told that there’s not a problem that anybody needs to worry about in this moment. I don’t think there’s any impact on Martinez’s immediate future."

The Verdict: Big boost for Villa

This is clearly a major boost for Villa, with Martinez such a consistent performer since joining from Arsenal in 2020, standing out as perhaps one of the Premier League's best goalkeepers and, as per WhoScored metrics, the best player at Villa Park so far this season.

The hope is that he and Emery have worked past whatever issue may have existed during their time with the Gunners and are able to knuckle down and succeed together at Villa.

Losing Martinez would be a huge blow for the Villans, considering that he has been called 'unbelievable' by team-mate Matty Cash, and he will hopefully continue to be an influential figure at the club well into the future.
