Mauricio Pochettino's stance hasn't changed regarding the Aston Villa manager's job, according to an update from renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Pochettino rejects Villa job

The Argentine is arguably one of the most sought-after managers who is currently out of a job, having left Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season.

Pochettino has been linked with taking charge at Villa after Steven Gerrard's departure, but recent reports have suggested that he is not interested in the role.

Gerrard's successor is yet to be confirmed, though, so there is lingering hope from some quarters that the 50-year-old could still end up at Villa Park.

The Latest: Romano provides update

However, taking to Twitter, Romano confirmed that Pochettino still isn't keen on being the new Villa boss, also turning down other unnamed Premier League clubs.

The Italian outlined:

"No changes on Mauricio Pochettino’s stance. Approached by multiple PL clubs, same answer as one month ago when he turned down Nice job: he wants to return at top level.

"Pochettino could also wait until the World Cup — it depends on the proposals/opportunities."

The Verdict: Feels highly unlikely

In truth, it really does look as though Pochettino has loftier ambitions than Villa, which is perhaps understandable considering that he has managed Champions League clubs and reached the final of that competition with Tottenham.

He may perceive the 17th-placed Villans as a big drop-down from Ligue 1 champions PSG, with all due respect, so NSWE need to turn their attentions elsewhere and bring in a more realistic target.

However, should he be open to persuasion, Pochettino is someone who could be an outstanding appointment for the Midlanders, having once been hailed as the 'best manager in the world' by his former Spurs player Andros Townsend.
