Aston Villa could sign Everton attacker Moise Kean in a swap deal with Douglas Luiz in the January transfer window, according to a new transfer report.

The Lowdown: Luiz on the way out?

Luiz ended up remaining at Villa Park beyond the summer window, despite Arsenal's best efforts to snap him up on deadline day last Thursday.

The 24-year-old is now into the final year of his current Villa deal and it looks increasingly as though he will leave the club come the end of the season, with reports in Brazil claiming the player has already 'decided' that is the case.

A new report claims the midfielder could even have departed before then, however.

The Latest: Villa linked with Kean signing

According to TuttoJuve [via Sport Witness], Kean, who is currently on loan at Juventus from Everton, could head to Villa in a swap deal with Luiz, who would move to Turin.

Juve would have to complete a permanent move for the 22-year-old first for that to happen, however, with a fee of almost €30million (£25.7m) required to snap him up.

The Italian media describe the permanent fee as a 'near obligatory clause' in Kean's loan contract, but it's just a case of when they pull the trigger to finalise the deal.

The Verdict: Keep hold until the summer

While Kean is a talented young player who could offer Villa some extra attacking thrust - he has scored four goals in 12 caps for Italy, been called 'fearless' by Thomas Tuchel and even been compared to Edinson Cavani in the past  - keeping hold of Luiz for the rest of the season surely takes precedence for Steven Gerrard.

The Brazilian is such a key presence in the middle of the park, averaging an 86.6% pass completion rate in the Premier League this season and being hailed as a 'top, top' player by journalist Guillem Balague.

Villa may have to accept that they lose Luiz for free next summer, which is a negative compared to receiving a fee in January, but retaining his services for the whole of 2022/23 is surely better than trading him for a striker who has already flopped in England once.
