Aston Villa are eyeing up a move for Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze during the January transfer window, according to a new report.

The Lowdown: Emery wants signings

Unai Emery has taken charge at Villa Park and will be looking to make his mark immediately, with new signings important in that respect.

The Spaniard will feel that there are certain players who can come in and excel in his system, helping take Villa up another gear in the Premier League.

Emery arrived at Villa from Villarreal and it looks as though he could be looking to raid his former club in the transfer market after being promised a 'huge' January budget by NSWE.

The Latest: Chukwueze interest

According to Football Insider, the Villans are 'plotting' a move for Chukwueze in January and he is seen as a 'top target' by Emery.

The Nigerian winger is out of contract in 2024, meaning the La Liga side are running out of time to earn a hefty sum of money for his services.

The Verdict: Could be a brilliant signing

Chukwueze is a hugely gifted footballer who is capable of wreaking havoc out wide, registering 55 goal contributions (29 goals and 26 assists) in 178 appearances for Villarreal.

For that reason, he is someone who could ignite a Villa attack that has struggled to click this season, with the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Emiliano Buendia, Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings not at their best.

At just 23, Chukwueze would also be considered a long-term option for the Villans and he possesses the pace and unpredictability to be a new star at the club.
