Aston Villa’s price limit for Tammy Abraham revealed

Aston Villa would be willing to go up to €40m (£35m) for Roma and England striker Tammy Abraham this summer.
The Lowdown: Villa linked with Abraham move
Unai Emery is likely to want a busy summer transfer window at Villa Park, as he looks to turn his team from a mid-table outfit into potential European challengers during the 2023/24 season.
It could be that Villa go into the market for a new striker to dovetail with Ollie Watkins, especially with the ageing and injury-prone Danny Ings joining West Ham midway through this season.
One player who has been linked with a move to the club numerous times is Abraham, who is currently at Roma but may be allowed to leave this summer.
The 25-year-old has started 20 Serie A games this season and made 27 appearances overall in the competition, but only six goals have come his way in total.
It could be that Jose Mourinho is happy to see the striker find a new challenge and a fresh update suggests that the Villans’ interest is not going away.
The Latest: Willing to bid
According to AS Roma Live [via Sport Witness], NSWE would be ‘willing to offer €40m (£35m)’ for Abraham’s signature this summer and ‘only Aston Villa are tempting the Giallorossi’.
That amount would ‘guarantee Roma a small capital gain’, which could be enough to persuade them to let the Englishman move on once the current campaign reaches its conclusion.
The Verdict: Coming into his prime
Abraham could be an excellent signing by Villa in the summer window, clearly not arriving on the cheap but coming in as a far more mature player than the one who left Chelsea in 2021.
The 11-cap and three-goal England international has scored 34 times in 91 appearances for Roma, which is an impressive return in a top European league, and his towering 6 foot 3 frame could make him a good target man for the Villans and an ideal foil for Watkins.
At 25, Abraham is still a relatively young footballer, too, and there is every chance that his best years still lie ahead of him, especially when you look at the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema playing at an incredibly high level well into their 30s.
The former Chelsea man has been hailed as ‘magnificent’ by journalist Henry Winter and he is someone who Villa must look to sign, especially with the attacker no doubt feeling he has potential unfinished business in the Premier League.
