Aston Villa: Journalist reacts to Tammy Abraham links - Aston Villa News

Journalist Ryan Taylor believes Roma striker Tammy Abraham ‘ticks a massive box’ for Aston Villa, ahead of a potential summer move for him.

The Lowdown: Abraham linked with move

The Englishman has found himself in and out of Jose Mourinho’s team this season, not always managing to be the Portuguese’s go-to man to lead the line.

Abraham has started 19 Serie A games in total during the campaign, although he has only scored six goals and has completed just four full 90 minutes in 2023.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a summer move to Villa a number of times recently, as Unai Emery looks to add much-needed firepower to his squad.

The Latest: Journo talks up signing

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Taylor said that Abraham could be perfect for Villa to sign for one key reason, even though there are doubts over how good he truly is:

“Is he an upgrade on Ollie Watkins? Maybe, but it’s minimal. There’s not much in it. I think, when you’re investing that kind of money, you may be better off looking at someone that’s going to take your team to the next level.

“But, then again, he is English, which I think ticks a massive box for Premier League clubs nowadays because of the homegrown quota.”

The Verdict: Could be a strong addition

While Abraham admittedly isn’t enjoying his best season for Roma, he is still a top-class striker with so much potential, having netted 17 league goals last term.

The towering 6 foot 3 striker could add physicality and pace to Villa’s attack and he could even be the perfect foil for Ollie Watkins, allowing the pair to forge a long-term partnership.

Abraham has scored three goals for England and was once hailed as ‘incredible’ by journalist Maxi Angelo, and at 25, he could be a top signing for the Villans for a number of years.

Granted, Taylor makes a fair assumption that there could be better strikers out there but the former Chelsea man is someone who Emery could take up a level and work on as a long-term project.
