Aston Villa have again been linked with a move for exciting Athletic Bilbao youngster Nico Williams, with a summer transfer potentially on the cards.

The Lowdown: Williams a Villa target

The Villans were in the mix to complete the signing of the 20-year-old during the January transfer window but it failed to materialise once the end of the month arrived.

Instead, Williams remained at Bilbao for the remainder of the season at least, where he has scored three goals and registered four assists in La Liga this season, but reports after deadline day suggested a summer move is definitely possible.

Now, a new update suggests that Villa's interest in the Spaniard is becoming increasingly serious.

The Latest: Fresh update emerges

According to AS [via Sport Witness], both the Villans and Liverpool are ready to 'test' the water with regards to signing Williams in the summer.

The winger has a €50million (£44.7m) buyout clause in his current Bilbao contract and it is believed that he won't be allowed to leave for anything less than that.

The Verdict: Looks a great prospect

There is a reason why Villa are seemingly paying such close attention to Williams, with the youngster a massive prospect who has been described as 'incredible' by his brother, Inaki Williams.

At 20, he is already a key player in one of Europe's biggest leagues and his overall tally of 16 goal contributions (nine goals and seven assists) at his tender age shows what he is capable of.

The seven-cap Spain international would provide Villa with the added attacking ammunition that is required moving forward, with nobody at Villa Park scoring more than six goals in the Premier League this season.

He would represent a long-term signing who could mature with Unai Emery at the helm, coming in as one of the poster boys for the new era under the Spaniard.
