Aston Villa play Burnley on Thursday evening and the latest injury news suggests that Ross Barkley could possibly feature for the first time since injury.
The latest on Barkley
The Chelsea loanee has been missing due to the hamstring injury he suffered early on against Brighton and Hove Albion.
According to Birmingham Live, Barkley is closing in on a return to action and will be assessed by Aston Villa ahead of tonight’s clash against Burnley.
This would be a huge boost
Frank Lampard was full of praise for Barkley last season and said: “I am delighted with him and he just needs to keep those levels. There is more to come and his attitude has been first class.”
Before his injury in the match against Brighton, Barkley played five times in the Premier League, managing two goals and one assist. He has averaged 3.4 shots, three key passes and 2.2 successful dribbles per game (WhoScored).
He also helps captain Jack Grealish massively. With Barkley out of the side, Grealish has been the main attacking threat and has a lot of the weight on his shoulders and more attention from the opposition.
When the Chelsea player comes back in, it will free up a lot more space for Grealish as defenders will have to try and mark both creative stars, and this only means positive things for Villa as a lot more chances should be created. His imminent return is definitely a huge boost and it will lift the squad if he could return to play against Burnley.
