Aston Villa: Fans discuss who should replace Ross Barkley
Many Aston Villa fans have been discussing who they want to replace Ross Barkley following his injury. It looks like the player most want to see is Conor Hourihane.
Former Villa striker Garry Thompson praised the player in the past, saying: “I have given Conor Hourihane a bit of stick for some of the defending he has done at times. I thought he was magnificent. He was the first one in anytime there’s a ruck.”
If he is to play he needs to prove that he warrants a place in the starting eleven, with one fan saying ‘he deserves a chance’.
Before his injury in the match against Brighton, Barkley played five times in the Premier League, managing two goals and one assist. Villa have definitely lost a huge threat if his problem is serious, as he has averaged 3.4 shots, three key passes and 2.2 successful dribbles per game (WhoScored).
However, Hourihane could be a very good temporary replacement. He’s been rarely seen in the Premier League this season, playing just 154 top flight minutes, however he has shown his quality as he has managed one goal and one assist in that time (Transfermarkt).
