Aston Villa striker Danny Ings is the subject of interest from Brighton, according to Football Insider.

The lowdown

Villa paid a reported £25m to sign the 29-year-old from Southampton just last summer, making him one of the biggest signings in the club's history.

The Englishman committed to a three-year, £120,000-per-week contract upon his arrival at Villa Park. He has started 18 Premier League matches for the club so far, scoring five goals and providing five assists.

The latest

Dissatisfied with their return of 26 goals in 29 matches, the third-lowest figure in the Premier League, Brighton want to sign a striker in the summer transfer window.

As per Football Insider, a 'recruitment source' has named Ings, a 'proven Premier League operator', as one of their targets.

It is not yet known whether Steven Gerrard and the Villa hierarchy are open to selling him, but the report does raise the possibility that the Midlands club could sell some 'senior stars' to boost their transfer kitty.

The verdict

On the one hand, it seems that Gerrard may finally be getting the best out of the Ollie Watkins and Ings partnership.

The pair have contributed three goals and three assists between them in the last three matches, while the Villa manager called them 'sensational' in the recent 4-0 victory over Southampton and may see great promise heading into next season.

However, on the other hand, the manager is said to have his eye on Atletico Madrid's Luis Suarez ahead of the expiry of the Uruguayan's contract.

Three into two doesn't go, so perhaps one of Ings and Watkins will be a casualty if that move materialises.
