Melayro Bogarde, who was linked to Aston Villa in the summer transfer window, is now being targeted by some of the biggest sides in Europe.
Bogarde and his latest transfer update
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, both AC Milan and Barcelona are looking for reinforcements to their defence in the January window. This has seen them monitor Bogarde. They have in fact made the initial inquiries for the defender, whose contract expires in June of 2021.
Reports suggest Dean Smith’s side are still ‘battling’ with these massive clubs for his signature.
Should Villa look to acquire the defender?
With other promising players at the club like Ollie Watkins and Jack Grealish showing their quality and that they can still improve, the Dutchman could be in the perfect environment to achieve his potential.
He is clearly being noticed by his country as well as he is climbing up the ranks at youth level. He has won the U17 European Championship with Netherlands.
He has been linked to England in the past but rejected the moves over concerns about playing time, and his comments at the time seem to suggest Villa Park would be a better fit than somewhere like the Camp Nou: “I did not want to go to a club that only ever loans you. So I went to Hoffenheim because I know that I can become a professional here. They are a big club, they played in the Champions League last season.”
Obviously it will be hard for Villa to compete with the likes of Barcelona, but by offering him first-team football they will have a big advantage over those elite European sides, who have huge squads packed with superior and more experienced depth.
In other news, many Villa fans have been raving over one player following his latest comments. Have a read who it was here!
