Aston Villa face Crystal Palace today and after their 3-0 victory over rivals West Bromwich Albion, Dean Smith will be hopeful that they can pick up another win. The manager has provided an injury update on Trezeguet.
The latest on Trezeguet
This is a blow for Villa
Trezeguet has provided a quality attacking threat during this campaign even if his end product has been poor, managing an average of 2.4 shots, one key pass and 1.1 successful dribbles per game (WhoScored).
Crystal Palace have conceded 25 goals in the division, which is the joint-third most in England’s top flight, and therefore to be without a player who could create opportunities against a struggling defence will be frustrating for Smith.
Despite the fact he has been missing for the last three games, it is still a major blow as they are judging his fitness week-by-week so it seems like he is out for longer than expected, and perhaps the bluntness and lack of detail in Smith’s response does indeed suggest a frustrating lingering issue. It is an especially big blow as the December fixture list is so heavily congested, and this means squad depth is key.
With other creative players in the side like Jack Grealish and Ollie Watkins, the club will still be hopeful that they can get the three points. However, this game might have been exactly what the Egyptian needed. Crystal Palace lost 7-0 last week and with the attacker not scoring this season, this could have been the ideal game for him to get off the mark and kick start his confidence ahead of the busiest time of the season.
