Aston Villa: Villans allegedly "considering Steven Gerrard's future” - Aston Villa News

Aston Villa are allegedly “considering Steven Gerrard’s future” following the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

The Lowdown: No away win

Villa would’ve gone into the top half with a first away win of the Premier League season on Monday, but they could only manage a draw against Steve Cooper’s side.

Ashley Young cancelled out Emmanuel Dennis’ opener in the first half, with boos from some travelling supporters at full-time.

The point leaves Villa three points above the relegation zone, with Gerrard’s side scoring just seven times in their opening nine fixtures, and it looks as if his position could be in jeopardy.

The Latest: Journalist’s claim

Journalist Owen O’Brien took to Twitter shortly after the full-time whistle at the City Ground to make a claim on Gerrard’s future.

He said that the talks have been ongoing for some time, with possible replacements already being sounded out.

“Aston Villa are considering Gerrard’s future – Understand talks regarding Gerrard have been ongoing for some time, with potential replacement candidates already being sounded out.

“Gerrard does still retain support from some higher ups – Talks will continue.”

The Verdict: Last chance at Chelsea?

Should Gerrard remain in charge for Sunday’s home match against Chelsea, it could the final chance the 42-year-old has to turn things around.

Speculation has been mounting for weeks now, with the likes of Unai Emery and Mauricio Pochettino name-checked as potential successors.

Therefore, if Villa put in another disappointing display this weekend with Gerrard in the dugout, especially in the final third, then it may well be time for NSWE to pull the plug and call time on his Villa Park tenure.
