Aston Villa intend to make a move for Villarreal forward Nicolas Jackson following the World Cup.

The Lowdown: Jackson rumours

Labelled a "player with bags of potential" by Ashley Preece, Jackson has been linked with a move to the Midlands following Unai Emery’s arrival at Villa Park.

Reports claimed that Emery has 'instructed his new club to move quickly and try to sign' Jackson, with his contract with the La Liga side set to expire in 2026.

The versatile forward broke into the first team last season and has made 21 appearances in all competitions during the current campaign.

The Latest: Transfer update

Sport Witness relayed an update from a Spanish source regarding Villa and Jackson on Monday.

They claimed that Villa owners NSWE ‘intend to make a formal offer’ for the 21-year-old after the World Cup, with Jackson open to the move to the Premier League as the idea of reuniting with Emery ‘seduces’ him.

The Verdict: Promising

Emery was the man who gave Jackson his Villarreal debut, with the youngster mainly playing as a centre-forward and a right-winger.

He seems to be highly rated by the Villa manager, so a winter swoop could be a shrewd move in the long run.

Jackson reportedly has a release clause set at €30m (£26.1m), so that may need to be triggered if there is to be a reunion between the two at Villa Park.
