Plenty of Aston Villa fans have been reacting on Twitter to an update involving Danny Ings.

The striker was brought to the club from Southampton over the summer in a deal worth £25m. Since then, the 29-year-old has struggled to find the net as frequently as he did with the Saints, scoring just three times in 13 Premier League appearances.

He has started just twice under Steven Gerrard, most recently against Chelsea alongside Ollie Watkins in a 4-3-1-2 system.

The Athletic’s Gregg Evans shared a transfer mailbag last week, with one fan wanting to know more on Ings, Leon Bailey and Emiliano Buendia. The journalist revealed that the former will play more alongside Watkins as the season goes on.

Villa fans react

Total Villa shared Evans’ claim regarding Ings on Twitter, less than 24 hours before the trip to Brentford this afternoon. Here is what these Villa supporters had to say in reply, with plenty of mixed feelings on Ings as you can see below.

“On paper it’s frightening but in reality it just hasn’t clicked yet”

“Awful. Was certain it would be the downfall of Smith and it will go against what works for us under Gerrard.”

“Not enjoying them as a pair tbh. They're not on the same wavelength nor compliment each other. I know this kind of partnership takes time but we lose energy up top in our pressure from the front with Ings as the spearhead.”

“I mean I get it. Spent a lot of money on these two and on their respective days they're unplayable. Hasn't worked out so far but I tip Gerrard to help them find a groove together. ”

“Not pleased. Don't understand why Danny Ings or Ollie deserve special treatment. Really feel both should fight for starting berth like Sanson, JJ, Dougie and SJM have to for one of two 8 roles.”

“The more they play together the better can’t expect them to work instantly together, they need time and consistency”
