Aston Villa: NSWE now in talks to sign Enner Valencia
Aston Villa are in talks to bring Fenerbahce striker Enner Valencia to the Premier League this summer, according to reports.
The Lowdown: Senior reinforcement required
Following the departure of Danny Ings who joined West Ham in January, Unai Emery moved quickly to secure his replacement in 19-year-old Jhon Duran, but a more senior attacking reinforcement could be needed to provide competition for Ollie Watkins.
The Ecuadorian international will be out of contract in the Super Lig at the end of the season which has alerted potential suitors that he could be available on a free, and NSWE are already laying the groundwork on a deal to bring him to the Midlands.
The Latest: Villa make Valencia contact
According to print editon of The Sunday Mirror (via TEAMtalk), Villa have ‘opened talks’ regarding a potential move for Valencia this summer, with the club ‘keen’ to offer him an initial one-year deal with the option of a second.
Emery is reportedly a ‘big fan’ of the 33-year-old, and it sounds like negotiations are progressing in the right direction.
The Verdict: Massive coup
Valencia has been dubbed a ‘baller’ by journalist Josh Bunting and it would be a massive coup for the Villans should they be able to secure his services ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
The Esmeraldas native has racked up an unbelievable 24 goal contributions in just 18 league outings so far this season where he’s currently averaging 3.3 shots per 90 minutes (WhoScored).
Valencia is standing out as Fenerbache’s undisputed star as their top goal scorer and best-performing player by average match rating in the Turkish Super Lig (WhoScored).
Emery’s target would bring plenty of leadership qualities being the captain of Ecuador and he also has previous top-flight experience having endured a spell at West Ham, making him a perfect addition in the final third.
