Aston Villa: Steven Gerrard ‘raging’ after Leeds draw -Aston Villa News

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard was livid following his team’s goalless draw against Leeds United on Sunday, according to Gregg Evans of The Athletic.

The lowdown

Villa had to settle for a point against the Whites on Sunday, having played nearly the entirety of the second half against 10 men following Luis Sinisterra’s red card.

The visitors weren’t able to break the deadlock even though they attempted 19 shots and amassed an xG of 2.58.

The latest

Evans took to Twitter shortly after the final whistle and noted Gerrard’s reaction, saying that Villa weren’t able to capitalise on the red card despite fashioning some promising situations and that they continue to look stagnant.

The journalist wrote: “Disappointing for Villa. They got into some good positions with the man advantage but they just couldn’t find a way through.

“Raises more questions about whether this team is progressing. Gerrard raging with frustration.”

The verdict

Gerrard may be feeling the pressure at Villa right now.

His team may have picked up a respectable haul of five points from the last three matches, but they still find themselves down in 14th in the Premier League, having aimed to push on towards to the European places.

After creating a hatful of chances, Sunday’s match has to be viewed as a big opportunity missed.

The manager may also be aware of rumours that the club are looking at alternative options. Indeed, Football Insider reported last week that Villa have been sounding out Unai Emery and Mauricio Pochettino as they consider a change.

It could be a pivotal month ahead for Gerrard.
