Aston Villa’s success to fight off the threat of relegation last term saw Dean Smith’s side remain in England’s top-flight.
Having sat in and around the bottom three for the most part last season, Villa left it until the end of the campaign to keep themselves in the Premier League, relying on a 1-1 draw with West Ham United on the final day to secure their safety.
Club captain Jack Grealish was the scorer on that day but many of Villa’s important goals towards the back end of 2019/20 were from Trezeguet.
The 25-year-old Egyptian arrived at Villa Park last summer and whilst he initially took time to adjust, the £7.2m valued winger found late form, contributing in total with six goals and two assists, with three of those strikes coming in the final four matches.
Watkins was in superb form last term for Championship side Brentford, whilst Traore is full of experience, having reached the Champions League semi-final with Lyon.
With the new season underway, Villa secured an opening day win over Sheffield United, starting with an attacking front three of Grealish, Watkins and Trezeguet.
The latter completed 90 minutes but with Traore’s arrival, his place now looks under threat, especially given Grealish is captain and Watkins is the club’s main summer signing.
Villa need as many players to be on top form this season as possible, but keeping the likes of Trezeguet happy should they not receive plenty of minutes, could hand Smith a problem.
