Aston Villa correspondent Ashley Preece has been reacting to Kaine Kesler Hayden’s deadline day move to MK Dons.

The Lowdown: Another loan move

Kesler Hayden began the current campaign on loan at Swindon Town, making 21 appearances for the Robins. The last of those came against Manchester City in the FA Cup, with Steven Gerrard swiftly recalling the right-back following an impressive display against Pep Guardiola's side.

The 19-year-old was then included in two Premier League matchday squads against Manchester United and Everton, with Gerrard's side picking up four points from those fixtures.

He has now sealed a deadline day loan move to League One side MK Dons and was among a number of players to depart the club on a temporary basis on the final hours of the January transfer window.

The Latest: Preece’s comments

Preece ran a Q&A on Birmingham Live on Monday evening, discussing all the transfer activity at Villa Park.

When it came to Kesler Hayden’s exit, he admitted that he was a little dismayed but labelled it a ‘good move’ for the teenager, saying: “Disappointed to see Kesler go but it's a good move for him, promotion-chasing MK Dons and Matty Cash has proven he's robust to play week in, week out.”

The Verdict: Correct call

It seems to be the right decision to loan Kesler Hayden out until the end of the season, with new signing Calum Chambers capable of filling in for Matty Cash, should the latter be unavailable.

It’s also good that Villa have sent the youngster out to a League One club in what will be a new challenge after he shone in the division below with Swindon.

Hopefully Kesler Hayden will continue his development with a string of successive displays under Liam Manning, which could then help him to challenge Cash for a starting spot under Gerrard at his parent club in the future.
