Aston Villa: NSWE preparing Matheus Cunha offer

Aston Villa are preparing a January offer for Atletico Madrid forward Matheus Cunha, according to Goal.
The Lowdown: New forward wanted
It could well be a busy first transfer window for Unai Emery at Villa Park, with NSWE promising him a ‘huge’ 2023 budget.
A new A-list forward is on the agenda, with a defender also thought to be of interest over the coming weeks to possibly replace Tyrone Mings.
Hailed as a “magician” by his former club RB Leipzig, Cunha could well be on the way to England, with Villa seemingly in the race for his services.
The Latest: Cunha update
Villa have been linked with a move for Cunha in recent weeks, and Goal shared what they know on Saturday morning.
Their headline claimed that Villa and Wolves are preparing January offers and the report added that they have been in contact with the player’s representatives.
The Verdict: Look elsewhere?
Cunha hasn’t exactly been prolific in Spain, scoring just seven times in 54 appearances for Atletico after making the move from Hertha Berlin last year.
Emery seems to be after a forward who can help take Villa to the next level, so you could argue that the 23-year-old wouldn’t be an upgrade on Danny Ings or Ollie Watkins at this moment in time, with those two having scored nine goals between them in 32 combined appearances this season..
Cunha’s team-mate Joao Felix is also of interest to Villa and has a far better record in front of goal at Atletico, so that may well be a wiser move for NSWE and Johan Lange to pursue.
