# Aston Villa: Ashley Preece talks up Arnaut Danjuma move

**Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma could be a potential signing for [Aston Villa](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/) in the January transfer window, according to reliable journalist Ashley Preece.**

### The Lowdown: Danjuma linked with Villa

The Villans were beaten 3-1 at home to Liverpool on Boxing Day, with the performance suggesting that an injection of fresh quality is needed before the end of next month.

One player who has been [linked](https://www.teamtalk.com/aston-villa/dazzling-double-52m-villa-deal-takes-positive-step-unai-emery-reunite-villarreal-duo) with a move to Villa is Danjuma, a player [with whom Unai Emery worked](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arnaut-danjuma/leistungsdatentrainer/spieler/355861/plus/0/verein/1050/trainer_id/5075) during their mutual time at Villarreal recently.

The 25-year-old has [scored 21 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arnaut-danjuma/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/355861/verein/1050) in 49 appearances for the [La Liga](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/la-liga-news/) side, along with being [described](https://www.footballinsider247.com/danjuma-is-a-rare-talent-who-can-dazzle-for-liverpool-after-inside-sources-transfer-update-pundit/) as a ‘nightmare for defenders’ by one-time [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) Golden Boot [winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/premier-league/torschuetzenkoenige/wettbewerb/GB1) Kevin Phillips.

### The Latest: Preece name-drops Danjuma

In a Q&A for [Birmingham Mail](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-transfer-news-emery-25841475), Preece namedropped Danjuma when asked about potential January targets.

The reporter stated:

> “First signing? I haven’t had a concrete name put to me yet with nothing being leaked into the media. Danjuma could be one for obvious reasons.”

### The Verdict: Valuable width for Emery

Danjuma could be exactly what Villa need in January, with their wide attacking options scoring just [five goals between them](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/leistungsdaten/verein/405) so far this season, [four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/leistungsdaten/verein/405) of those from Leon Bailey.

Philippe Coutinho has [not contributed to a goal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/leistungsdaten/spieler/80444) in 2022/23 and [could potentially move on](https://www.footballinsider247.com/agbonlahor-suggests-philippe-coutinho-has-played-his-last-aston-villa-match-after-january-reveal/), so the Villarreal winger could be a strong and very different replacement, adding more [pace](https://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwj56eCgx5n8AhXDnFwKHfReDzYQFnoECCAQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.goal.com%2Fen%2Fnews%2Farnaut-danjuma-how-villarreals-cobra-went-from-the-championship-to-the-champions-league%2Frs9nd222ksd61u3wne11i6yz3&usg=AOvVaw0irFY7sczR502dkPytz2JS) and a greater counterattacking threat.

Danjuma’s relationship with Emery is another reason why a move could make sense, with the Villa manager knowing the Dutchman’s game inside out and being aware of exactly what the 25-year-old could add to the team.
