# Aston Villa: Ashley Preece provides Morgan Sanson exit update

**[Aston Villa](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/) midfielder Morgan Sanson is ‘free to leave’ the club in the January transfer window, according to reliable journalist Ashley Preece.**

### The Lowdown: Sanson out of favour

The 28-year-old has found himself out of Steven Gerrard’s plans so far this season, with other midfielders such as Douglas Luiz and John McGinn preferred to him.

### The Verdict: Makes perfect sense

In truth, Sanson has failed to live up to expectations in a Villa shirt since joining from Marseille last year, only making [20 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/morgan-sanson/alletore/spieler/174094) and not registering a single goal or assist.
