# Aston Villa: Journalist reacts to Tammy Abraham links

**Journalist Ryan Taylor believes Roma striker Tammy Abraham ‘ticks a massive box’ for [Aston Villa](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/), ahead of a potential summer move for him.**

### The Lowdown: Abraham linked with move

The Englishman has found himself in and out of Jose Mourinho’s team this season, not always managing to be the Portuguese’s go-to man to lead the line.

Abraham has [started 19 Serie A games](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/317506/Show/Tammy-Abraham) in total during the campaign, although he has only scored six goals and has completed just four full 90 minutes in 2023.

The 25-year-old has been [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/aston-villa-premier-league-tammy-abraham-transfer-news-updates/) with a summer move to Villa a number of times recently, as [Unai Emery](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/unai-emery/) looks to add much-needed firepower to his squad.

### The Latest: Journo talks up signing

Speaking to [*Give Me Sport*](https://www.givemesport.com/aston-villa-transfer-news-67m-striker-would-tick-massive-box-villa-park/), Taylor said that Abraham could be perfect for Villa to sign for one key reason, even though there are doubts over how good he truly is:

> “Is he an upgrade on Ollie Watkins? Maybe, but it’s minimal. There’s not much in it. I think, when you’re investing that kind of money, you may be better off looking at someone that’s going to take your team to the next level.
>
> “But, then again, he is English, which I think ticks a massive box for Premier League clubs nowadays because of the homegrown quota.”

### The Verdict: Could be a strong addition

While Abraham admittedly isn’t enjoying his best season for Roma, he is still a top-class striker with so much potential, having netted [17](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/317506/History/Tammy-Abraham) league goals last term.

The towering [6 foot 3](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tammy-abraham/profil/spieler/331726) striker could add physicality and pace to Villa’s attack and he could even be the perfect foil for Ollie Watkins, allowing the pair to forge a long-term partnership.

Abraham has [scored three goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tammy-abraham/profil/spieler/331726) for England and was once [hailed](https://twitter.com/MaaxiAngelo/status/1175827871752949761?s=20) as ‘incredible’ by journalist Maxi Angelo, and at 25, he could be a top signing for the Villans for a number of years.

Granted, Taylor makes a fair assumption that there could be better strikers out there but the former Chelsea man is someone who Emery could take up a level and work on as a long-term project.
