# Aston Villa: Set to win race for Trezeguet

**Aston Villa are set to beat Sampdoria to the signing of Kasimpasa winger Trezeguet, having met the Turkish club’s asking price, according to [Tutto Mercato Web](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/tmw-aston-villa-rilancio-per-trezeguet-e-fatta-battuta-la-samp-1270491), via [The Birmingham Mail](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-win-race-transfer-16611257).**

Kasimpasa had [demanded €15million](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/tmw-aston-villa-rilancio-per-trezeguet-e-fatta-battuta-la-samp-1270491) for the Egypt international, which Sampdoria weren’t willing to meet, while Villa were.

[It is believed](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/tmw-aston-villa-rilancio-per-trezeguet-e-fatta-battuta-la-samp-1270491) that had Trezeguet been given the option between the two, he would have chosen the Premier League anyway.

Trezeguet started [34 league matches](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/313545/Show/Tr%C3%A9z%C3%A9guet) for Kasimpasa last season, scoring nine goals and assisting another nine, predominantly featuring on the left-wing.

Trezeguet would most likely be up against Anwar El Ghazi for the starting spot on Villa’s left-wing after the Dutchman was re-signed following his season at Villa Park on loan.

He started [28 leagues games](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/232261/Show/Anwar-El-Ghazi) and came on six times, scoring six goals and assisting six. The former Ajax man didn’t have as much of an impact in games, as he took [1.9 shots, made 1.3 key passes, completed 1.2 dribbles and was fouled 0.9 times per game.](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/232261/Show/Anwar-El-Ghazi)

Aston Villa don’t necessarily need a winger considering their current options in the likes of El-Ghazi and Jota, but the option to sign Trezeguet for €15 million is a very good opportunity to strengthen the club’s attacking line.

It may be seen as a risk to sign somebody from a lesser league, but this has widely been the approach Villa have taken this window, by signing players such as [Wesley](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48629167), so it appears they are willing to gamble.
