# Aston Villa: Source shares club’s summer plans

**Aston Villa will spend big again this summer and are looking to land two wide forwards ahead of the 2021/22 season.**

That’s according to a report from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-aston-villa-set-sights-on-signing-two-forwards-as-big-money-summer-plan-revealed/), who have been informed by a Villa source that their key area to improve is in attack.

### Wide additions Villa’s priority

Potential wide additions are being looked at, with two signings to play out on the flanks in Dean Smith’s 4-2-3-1 system the club’s priority.

Villa have spent over [£88m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/transfers/verein/405) during the current campaign, with [five players joining in eight-figure deals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/transfers/verein/405).

### Transfer Tavern take

This update is slightly different to a report from the reliable [John Percy of The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/04/02/aston-villa-offer-ezri-konsa-tom-heaton-new-deals-clubs-summer/).

He claimed earlier this month that the club will look to [sign a winger along with a centre-forward](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/04/02/aston-villa-offer-ezri-konsa-tom-heaton-new-deals-clubs-summer/) to provide competition to [club-record signing Ollie Watkins](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/transferrekorde/verein/405). Looking to bring in two wingers instead of one though, is a shrewd decision in our view.

The club have [four senior wide men on the books currently](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/kader/verein/405) in club captain Jack Grealish, Trezeguet, Bertrand Traore and Anwar El-Ghazi.

Adding two more of real quality could then allow Grealish to move to a central role behind Watkins, leaving the likes of Trezeguet, Traore and El-Ghazi needing to step up their game to become a regular next season.

Those three players combined have managed just [13 top flight goals this term](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/24/Show/England-Aston-Villa), so a player who can muster up double digits by themselves would be a big improvement, while Trezeguet is also likely to be sidelined for considerable time [through the injury he sustained against Liverpool](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11677/12273740/trezeguet-aston-villa-winger-set-to-miss-rest-of-season-due-to-injury).
