# Aston Villa: Spurs join Harry Souttar race

**Aston Villa have now been joined by Tottenham in the race to sign Stoke City defender Harry Souttar, according to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-set-sights-on-beating-villa-to-souttar-as-transfer-mission-revealed/).**

### The Lowdown: Villa links

[Reports](https://www.footballinsider247.com/aston-villa-plan-to-sign-souttar-ticks-all-the-boxes-after-january-raid-update-hutton/) last week suggested that Villa have set their sights on raiding the Championship side in January for the [Australia international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-souttar/profil/spieler/298091).

Souttar still has just [under four years](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-souttar/profil/spieler/298091) remaining in his Potters contract and holds a career-high £3.6m [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-souttar/marktwertverlauf/spieler/298091) valuation.

The 22-year-old has been a [regular](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-souttar/leistungsdaten/spieler/298091) under Michael O’Neill this season and has impressed with a 7.36/10 average [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/96/Show/England-Stoke) match rating.

But it appears as if Villa will now have to battle Spurs for Souttar’s services…

### The Verdict: Chukwuemeka 2.0

Villa and Johan Lange [pipped](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9898807/Premier-League-Aston-Villa-beat-Spurs-Rangers-signing-19-year-old-Caleb-Chukwuemeka.html) Daniel Levy in the race to sign teenage forward Caleb Chukwuemeka over the summer, and the two may well battle it out again for Souttar in 2022.

Dean Smith [bolstered](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/transfers/verein/405) his defensive ranks over the summer by bringing Axel Tuanzebe in on loan, however, he still has just [four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/kader/verein/405) senior centre-backs on the books.

Spurs have [five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/kader/verein/148), so Souttar may get a better chance of first-team football in the Midlands over north London.

A transfer could well be one to keep a close eye on over the coming months, but it appears as if Villa need Souttar’s services more than Tottenham do.
