# Aston Villa: Villans interested in Ben Foster

**[Aston Villa](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/) are thought to be interested in a move for goalkeeper Ben Foster.**

### The Lowdown: Foster a free agent

The 39-year-old [confirmed](https://theathletic.com/news/ben-foster-announces-he-will-leave-watford-at-the-end-of-the-season/mTBvuVFLdBjb/) last month that he will leave Watford this summer when his Vicarage Road contract [expires](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/foster-aston-villa-transfer-martinez-24122767).

The veteran stopper, who was labelled [‘unbelievable’](https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/18123856.nigel-pearson-praises-ben-foster-watford-draw-sheffield-united/) by his former manager Nigel Pearson, has made [more saves](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/saves) than any other goalkeeper in Premier League history and recently [admitted](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/foster-aston-villa-transfer-martinez-24122767) that he would be keen on a move to Villa Park.

Villa have already explored the free-agent market with a move for [Boubacar Kamara](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2022/may/23/villa-announce-boubacar-kamara-signing/) and are still being [linked](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-luis-suarez-transfer-24229813) with Luis Suarez, and Foster appears to be another unattached player of interest to the club.

### The Latest: Villa keen on Foster

Spanish outlet [Marca](https://www.marca.com/futbol/premier-league/2022/06/03/629a38dd46163f3a0f8b45bf.html) shared a Premier League transfer round-up on Wednesday evening, looking at all 20 top-flight clubs.

When it came to Villa, they included Foster among the players of interest alongside Rory Wilson, who looks set to [join](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/aston-villa-fabrizio-romano-transfer-news/) next month from Rangers.

### The Verdict: Is he needed?

Robin Olsen has recently made his loan move to Villa Park [permanent](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2022/june/04/villa-announce-olsen-signing/) to provide cover for first-choice Emiliano Martinez.

Steven Gerrard also has Jed Steer on the books for a further [12 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jed-steer/profil/spieler/110867), so a move for Foster doesn’t seem needed at this moment in time.

Should the [rarely-used](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jed-steer/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/110867) Steer leave the club on a loan or permanent basis, though, perhaps there could be room for Foster to become the third option for Gerrard, and it looks as if they are keen on a potential move for the 39-year-old.
